Yes. WeaveGrid can account for your solar production through our Rooftop solar charging add-on feature.
Because WeaveGrid does not have direct access to your solar system's real-time production data, this feature allows you to manually set solar hours in your dashboard based on when your system typically generates the most electricity.
How it works: When enabled, WeaveGrid shifts your charging to favor your solar window over other low-cost periods. Our system balances these hours to maximize your solar usage to meet your daily needs.
Note: Enabling this feature does not mean WeaveGrid will only charge during solar hours; rather, it incorporates them as a high priority when optimizing your schedule. This means charging may still happen overnight to meet your daily charging needs.
Who can participate? Do I need to have solar already?
The add-on is available to customers who are looking to prioritize self-generated solar energy over grid power for EV charging and meet the following criteria:
- Program Enrollment: Must be in a WeaveGrid program with Automatic Smart Charging enabled.
- Solar Hardware: Currently have a rooftop solar system setup.
Do I need additional hardware?
You should have Rooftop Solar already installed - but there is no additional hardware is required to enable this feature.
What are the best solar hours?
By default, solar hours are set to 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, which typically aligns with peak solar production. The best solar hours for you will depend on your system.
Why do I have to set my own Rooftop solar charging hours?
WeaveGrid does not have direct visibility into your solar system's production. We don't receive solar generation data from your EV or charging equipment (EVSE), so we aren't able to automatically detect when your system is producing the most energy.
Can I change my solar hours after I set them?
Yes. You can update your solar hours at any time in your dashboard.
Will my car still be ready if the solar window isn't long enough?
Yes. Your daily charging needs are our top priority. If your Rooftop solar charging hours aren't enough to reach your target charge, WeaveGrid will schedule charging during times outside of your solar window.
The system balances your solar hours with your other enabled preferences to ensure your charging needs are met at the lowest possible cost and grid impact.
With this Rooftop solar charging set, does this mean WeaveGrid will only charge during the hours I've set?
Not necessarily. WeaveGrid prioritizes charging during your solar hours, but:
- Your home may still draw some energy from the grid if there isn't enough solar production
- Charging may continue outside solar hours to ensure your vehicle meets your daily charging needs
- If your time to be at battery level (e.g., 7am) is before rooftop solar hours starts (e.g., 11am) and you plug in the night before, you will be charged overnight to reach your ready by time. If you'd like to charge from solar hours more, we suggest plugging in your EV in the morning or changing your ready by time to be after rooftop solar hours.
